Man injured in Elizabeth City shooting

Elizabeth City, N.C. – A 22-year-old man was shot while walking on Debry Street Sunday, according to police.

Police were sent to the area of Debry Street in reference to a shooting at about 3 p.m.

Officers found shell casings and noticed damages to residences on 408 and 410 Debry Street.

An air conditioner unit at apartment 503 was also struck by a bullet.

Officers collected 15 shell casings, nine were 9 millimeter bullets and six were 380 calibers.

As officers were examining the crime scene, they were told about a man who arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound.

The victim was treated at Sentara Hospital for a single gunshot wound to the left upper bicep area. He was later released.

The victim says he was walking on Debry Street when he heard gunshots and felt a bullet hit him in the arm. He said he shot back at the suspect before running from the scene and going to the hospital.

Police do not have any suspects or motives at this time.
