Portsmouth, Va. – A mother has been charged after police say she assaulted a school administrator in Portsmouth on Tuesday.
Police say 43-year-old Tracy Lawrence went into Lakeview Elementary School on 1300 Horne Avenue to speak to the assistant principal about a matter involving her child.
She was not happy with the administrator’s response and police say that’s when things became physical inside of the school’s main office.
They say Lawrence stood up, hit the administrator in the head causing her to briefly lose consciousness.
The parent then started to become disorderly by shouting and drawing attention to herself, police say.
The school resource officer was called about the incident at 2:30 p.m. but they say Lawrence had already exited the building.
The officer was able to locate Lawrence at at her home and she was taken into custody without incident.
No students were around to witness the event and no one else was injured.
Lawrence has been charged with assault and battery and disorderly conduct.
She is now being held at the Portsmouth City Jail.
