Norfolk, Va. – A 7-year-old boy who was critically injured in a car accident in Norfolk on Monday has made a few major improvements over the past 24 hours, his family tells NewsChannel 3.

According to Kasaera McClenny, her 7-year old brother Keion is awake and may go home from the hospital as early as today or tomorrow.

Keion was in a car crash with his best friend, 9-year-old Lucas Ballard and his mom in Norfolk on Monday. Ballard did not survive the crash.

Since the crash, Kasaera told NewsChannel 3 Keion was sedated and on a breathing tube with bruised lungs and some swelling of the brain. However, on Wednesday morning, Kasaera says doctors say the swelling has gone down and now Keion is breathing on his own.

The crash is still under investigation.
