Ten new psychiatric beds will soon be available to patients at Sentara Obici Hospital in Suffolk.

Hospital officials applied for a Certificate of Public Need through the Virginia Department of Health, and now, the hospital beds will be doubling.

The psychiatric unit currently has ten beds, but will eventually have twenty.

"People are speaking out about depression and psychiatric illness," Vice President of patient care services at Sentara Obici Hospital, Phyllis Stoneburner said.

The $61,000 project will convert ten private patient rooms to semi-patient rooms over a period of months.

News Channel 3 will have more on this story at 4:30 and 6 tonight.
