Fire causes thousands of dollars in damage to Suffolk home

Suffolk, Va. – A Suffolk home has several thousand dollars worth of damage after a fire Saturday night.

According to a city spokesperson, Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel were called out to the home in the 100 block of Tee Box Lane at 6:04 p.m.

When firefighters got there, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from an attached garage.  The fire was under control by 6:49 p.m. and was contained to the garage.

No one was injured.  The seven people who lived there, including two adults and five children, are now staying with relatives.

The cause of the fire was discarded smoking material.

The damage to the garage is estimated at around $15,000.
