Hampton, Va. – A Hampton University grad and local radio DJ took home a Grammy Monday night.
Andrew Bisnaught, better known as DJ Babey Drew, was recognized for his contribution to the Diplo and Skrillex award winning album, Jack Ü .
A song on Jack Ü called “Jungle Bae” sampled DJ Babey Drew’s “In the Air.”
Bisnaught graduated in 2002 and got his start in radio at WHOV 88.1 FM. He was also an on-air DJ at Virginia Beach’s Hot 102.1 for over four years. He currently can be heard on Z-104.5 FM in Virginia Beach and Power 96.1 FM in Atlanta.
“I produced a song, sat on it for a year, then finally decided to do something with it, and within 2 months of me putting it out, I got contacted on behalf of Diplo and Skrillex,” he said. “The message here is, if you have an idea… Do it! When you lay a brick, a house eventually will come!”
This is the first Grammy for DJ Babey Drew.
He is best known for being the official touring DJ for Chris Brown. Babey Drew has also been a regular DJ for the Kardashians and has opened for Calvin Harris and Beyonce. He has performed in more than 20 countries and sold out his personal tours in Europe, Dubai, Africa, Brazil and Australia.
“Winning a Grammy Award means that I am among a very small group of elite people in this industry,” said Babey Drew. “It is the highest prestige anyone can get and I am honored that I could achieve it.
