Major E.C. Harris with the Suffolk Sheriff's Office is hoping to prevent accidental shooting sin the city.
He wants every gun owner in Suffolk to own a gun lock.
To make that happen, the sheriff's office is giving them away for free.
"Our goal is to put a gun lock in every gun owner's hands in the city of Suffolk. There's no excuse. I'll bring one to your house. I'll be glad to do it," Major Harris told NewsChannel 3.
Their reminder comes after an accidental shooting this week. Police say a three year old little boy got a hold of his parents' gun, and he accidentally shot himself in his shoulder.
Luckily, he's going to be okay.
"It brings it to home, and brings it out on the forefront of gun safety. A lot of times you don't think about it until something like that happens," Major Harris said.
You can pick up the gun lock at the sheriff's office, or you can log onto their Facebook page...
"They can like us on Facebook, and follow us, and see where we are in the city. That way they don't have to make a trip up there to the courthouse. They can catch us on the Kroger at the northern end, the Farm Fresh, anywhere," Major Harris said.
