Newport News, Va. – Newport News firefighters were called to an apartment fire in the 600 block of 12th St. just before 9:30 p.m. Saturday.
When crews arrived, they saw smoke coming from the building and could hear a fire alarm.
Firefighters immediately knocked down the flames coming from the kitchen area of the apartment.
One person suffered non-life threatening injuries after jumping from a window of the apartment and is currently in a local hospital.
No one else was hurt.
