Man charged for robbery of Williamsburg gas station

Williamsburg, Va. – Police have charged a man who they believe robbed a Valero gas station in the 600 block of York Street on February 22 around 7:14 a.m.

The manager told police that a black male wearing a black hoodie and surgical mask came into the store. The suspect pulled out his gun and demanded money. He ran away after he was given the cash.

The clerk was not injured.

After the robbery, a York-Poquoson Sheriff’s deputy stopped a car near the scene. The driver of the car was dressed similarly to the robbery suspect.

The suspect was detained while his possible involvement in the robbery was determined. Around 9:15 a.m., after questioning, charges were obtained for the person.

William Thaiquan Hayes, 18, of Hampton, was charged with one count of Robbery, one count of Abduction, and two counts of Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.

He is currently being held in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.
