Man dies after single-vehicle crash in Newport News

Newport News, Va. – A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Newport News early Tuesday morning after his vehicle crashed into a utility pole.

Newport News Police say they were called to the crash at 41st Street and Jefferson Avenue around 1:30 a.m.

The accident involved a Buick Lucerne traveling north on Jefferson Avenue when it crashed into the utility pole.

The driver, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. His identity has not yet been released.

The crash is currently being investigated by the Newport News Police Department’s Crash Team. It is unknown at this time if speed or alcohol played a role in the accident.
