Bangor, Wash. – A civilian employee of Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor reported a drone flying above the base, according to Military.com.

The base is home to eight Trident nuclear-armed submarines.

The drones were reported on the night of February 8.

The airspace above the base is prohibited and it’s illegal and hazardous to operate drones without permission of authorities, according to the Navy.

The FAA prohibited the airspace in 2005 at the Navy’s request. No aircraft, like drones, can fly up to 2,500 feet.

“I keep up on all the drone news. Every drone pilot I know knows that all of Bangor is a no-fly zone,” said Kitsap Drones owner Joe Sullivan

The Navy is still investigating this incident.
