Mother and child struck by vehicle on Hampton Boulevard

Norfolk, Va. – A mother and child were hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Hampton Boulevard and W. 26th Street, according to Norfolk Police.

They were both taken to the hospital, but police say both are expected to recover.

Police say the incident occurred when a jeep was traveling northbound on Hampton Blvd, and the Altima was traveling south. The driver of the Altima went to turn on 26th street and collided with the Jeep. After spinning out of control, police say the Altima struck the mother and her young son who were trying to cross the street

Witnesses say following the accident, they saw the mother lying in the road and a citizen consoling her son.

The drivers of the vehicles were not injured. There are charges pending for the driver of the Altima for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.
