VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – A Chipotle Mexican Grill temporarily closed during the lunchtime rush on Thursday to clean the restaurant.
Matthew Fury tells NewsChannel 3 he was attempting to go inside around 1:30 p.m., at the location on 2701 N Mall Drive, and an employee told him they were closed.
Fury says he saw every worker inside the store frantically cleaning.
A customer came out and told him they unexpectedly stopped the line and announced they were closed, so several customers threw out their food.
According to Chris Arnold, Communications Director for Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc., someone got sick in the restaurant.
“If that ever happens, we close and do a sanitization process as a routine precautionary measure,” he said to NewsChannel 3 in an e-mail.
A manager inside the store also told NewsChannel 3 that one of their employees wasn’t feeling well.
Arnold said the restaurant is now back open and it’s business as usual.
