Suffolk, Va. - A 19-year-old man is now in custody after police say he killed a man Friday night at Wilson Pine Apartments in Suffolk.
Mandocous Rivers has now been charged with first degree murder.
At around 9 p.m., police arrived on the scene and found 23-year-old Aaron Hunter dead.
Residents there say this shooting is a first.
“I ’ve been living here for 30 years and we’ve never had anything like this to happen. Really, it’s been a very safe and nice place to live," the neighbor said.
She says she didn't know Hunter personally, but she actually met him briefly right before the shooting.
Others described the chaotic scene at the apartment complex on the night of the shooting.
“I seen a bunch of people and they were standing outside," Leroy Stuart, who was visiting the apartment complex. "One young boy, he was out there cussing and stuff. I was like, ‘What in the world is going on?’ Then I seen crime tape. When I seen crime tape and cops and detectives and stuff like that. I said ‘Oh yeah, something happened.’”
