Portsmouth - Elected officials and church leaders came together Tuesday night for a unity rally.

The rally was held at New Mount Baptist Church in Portsmouth. Nearly a dozen speakers addressed the packed room about the problems in the city. The solution to the problems - for everyone to stop pointing the finger at one another and gets on the same page.

More than one hundred people attended the rally and say they were inspired by the conversation heard there.

"If people can come together and not fight and fuss but show some love some compassion and empathy we could have some change," said Pam Burns, a longtime Portsmouth resident. "Every little bit helps."

Moving forward, attendees are hoping the momentum continues in the city so that unity isn't just a topic of conversation, but an actual movement in Portsmouth.
