Newport News, Va. – A man in a wheelchair was hit by a vehicle at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Peninsula Drive on Wednesday morning, according to Newport News Police dispatchers.
Police received a call reporting the incident at 8:08 a.m.
The vehicle that hit the man was a red Ford Mustang. The driver left the scene before police arrived.
The 62-year-old victim was transported to the hospital with a minor leg injury.
Police say the victim’s wheelchair was on the sidewalk and the man’s leg was extended into the road. Witnesses say the vehicle hit the man’s leg and then stopped. The driver appeared to look around before driving away.
The investigation remains ongoing.
