Newport News, Va. – The Mariners Museum and Park held a Civil War beard competition as apart of their annual “Battle of Hampton Roads Weekend” on March 5th and March 6th.
Participants faced off beard to beard in the facial hair competition that celebrated Civil War-era facial hair.
Kids also had fun with the competition as well, with two crafty categories designed just for them.
The winner of the freestyle category, Thomas Watts, had probably the most noticeable beard of the day.
Everybody enjoyed their experience at this weekend’s event as there were numerous things to do.
Events ranged from re-enactment camps, to a Civil War era cooking competition.
This event showed that the Hampton Roads community is truly filled with an amazing amount of history.
