Detectives find $7,200 worth of cocaine, 4 handguns in Portsmouth man’s home

Portsmouth, Va. – Portsmouth police searched a home in the 1200 block of Lindsay Avenue Thursday as a result of a drug investigation.

During the search, 33-year-old Benitez A. Moody and an unknown woman tried to run away from the home.

While trying to run away, both people were met by a police K9 team and several detectives waiting outside.

The woman was apprehended by a police dog and has minor injuries. She was treated and released at a hospital and has not been charged.

Detectives found over four ounces of crack cocaine, a street value of $7,200. They also found four handguns, 3.5 grams of heroin and a hydraulic press used to make drugs.

Detectives seized $8,100 in cash and two cars as a result of the search warrant.

Moody has been charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession with intent to distribute heroin. Both are third offense charges. Moody is also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm while possessing drugs. He is being held without bond at Portsmouth City Jail.

The DEA is helping Portsmouth Police with the ongoing investigation.
