Norfolk, Va. - They may not have wands or wings, but the Fairy Godmothers of Hampton Roads are making a big difference in the lives of high school girls this prom season.

For years, they've been supplying dresses, shoes and accessories for a reduced price so girls can look and feel great at the big dance.

"It's just really expensive for high school students to try and attend prom," says Wendy Baylor, the Fairy Godmother director. "Dresses can range up to $500... tickets are at least $50 up to $100... so it just really adds up. This is just a good alternative for girls who might need a little bit of help to be able to afford to attend."

Dresses are $10 and everything else is reduced so that money doesn't have to be a reason someone would miss their prom.

They've been collecting dresses and accessories since January and the prom fair starts this weekend. Beginning Friday at 4 p.m., girls can go to Norfolk State University's Student Center to pick out their perfect prom look.

"We have about 2,000 dresses and hundreds of different shoes and jewelry and scarves and make up and all those kinds of accessories... we are equipped to benefit at least between 600 and 1,000 people this year," said Baylor.

Girls from anywhere can come and shop, you don't have to be from Hampton Roads. All you need is an ID that shows you are in high school and you're good to go!

The fair runs Friday from 4 p.m. until 7p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.
