On March 29th, the Norfolk district U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will close the Great Bridge Lock and the Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal, Route 1. This is to allow diving and crane operations to remove and replace a lock gate support strap and clean the debris pit near the lock cages.
The closing will occur from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Vessels using the AIWW can use the Dismal Swamp Canal, Route 2. The Canal is 50 feet wide and has a controlling depth of 6 feet.
The Dismal Swamp Canal locking hours are 8:30 a.m., 11 a.m. , 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
