Hampton, Va. - A group of Hampton Roads Vietnam War Veterans were honored Tuesday during a commemoration ceremony at the Hampton VA Medical Center.

The commemoration is part of a national recognition to honor Veterans of the Vietnam War for their service and sacrifice on behalf of the United States; to highlight the service of the armed forces and agencies that made significant contributions to the war effort, and; to pay tribute to the family members and love ones of those who served.

"Whenever we can come out and recognize our brothers, both those who didn’t return and those who did, it’s a special place, it’s a special feeling. Unless you’ve been there and done that I don’t think you can realize what it means," Vietnam Veteran Roy Hankinson told NewsChannel 3's Makenzie Walter Tuesday.

Veterans who participated in the ceremony received a commemorative pin in recognition of their service.
