Newport News, Va. – Thanks to two brave Walgreens employees, a man is behind bars after police say he tried to rob the store.

This happened on Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Walgreens at 12750 Jefferson Avenue.

At 5:50 a.m., police were called out about an armed robbery in progress and a suspect who had been detained by store personnel.

The two employees and a pharmacist were in the store at the time.

They say the armed robber, identified as Ronald Farmer, went into the store at 3:40 a.m., pointed a black handgun at one of the employees and told them to go to the back of the store.

They say he tried to zip tie the employees and he lowered his weapon to put the ties on the employees. That’s when he was tackled to the floor and restrained by the two employees until police arrived.

Police say the gun was a fake.

Farmer has been charged with abduction by force, intimidation or deception, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and attempts to commit noncapital felonies.
