Posted

Norfolk, Va. – A man and woman were both issued summonses for panhandling in Suffolk last week.

Jason Callan of Newport News. was issued a summons for begging/panhandling in the 5800 block of Harbor View Boulevard.

April Davis, of Chesapeake, was issued a summons for begging/panhandling in the 200 block of College Drive.

The summonses come after Suffolk city council passed an ordinance that would make it illegal for people to panhandle on a median or within 15 feet of most major roads.

Those major roads include College Drive, Harbor View Boulevard, and downtown Washington Street.

Violators could be charged with a misdemeanor and be fined up to five hundred dollars.
