AMC Theatres may allow texting during movies

Posted

The CEO of AMC Entertainment says AMC Theatres may become texting and mobile-device friendly in the future.

In an interview with Variety, Adam Aron says allowing texting in movie theatres would be more appealing to millennials.

“When you tell a 22-year-old to turn off the phone, don’t ruin the movie, they hear please cut off your left arm above the elbow,” Aron told Variety. “You can’t tell a 22-year-old to turn off their cellphone. That’s not how they live their life.”

Aron said that the theaters will have to find a happy medium for those who don’t want to sit next to someone who is texting during a movie. One possibility would be having specific “texting friendly” auditoriums.

“We’re going to have to figure out a way to do it that doesn’t disturb today’s audiences. There’s a reason there are ads up there saying turn off your phone, because today’s moviegoer doesn’t want somebody sitting next to them texting or having their phone on.”
