Newport News, Va. – Friday marks the deadline for the Democratic Party to submit their nominations for late Virginia Senator John Miller’s vacant seat.
Miller died unexpectedly on April 4 at the age of 68.
The Democratic Party is allowed to choose two nominees. If both potential nominees submit all of the correct paperwork by Democratic and Virginia Department of Elections standards, then there will be a Demcratic primary held.
If the paperwork does not prove to be correct, there will only be one Democratic nominee for the seat.
The Republican Party’s nomination deadline is June 21. It has not been specified how many nominees they are allowed.
The election to fill Miller’s seat will be held on November 8.
