ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – A man is in critical condition after being shot near the Elks Lodge in Elizabeth City Sunday.
According to police, officers were in the area when they heard gunshots just after 2 a.m.
While heading to the scene, officers were notified that a deputy had pulled over a car for speeding and found a shooting victim inside.
The people in the car told officers they were leaving the Elks Lodge when several shots were fired. One went through the right rear passenger’s window and hit Shawquin Privott, 23, of Tyner, N.C., in the neck.
The driver and passengers said they were trying to find the hospital when they were pulled over.
Privott was transported to a hospital in Elizabeth City before being airlifted to Norfolk in critical condition.
