NORFOLK, Va. - General elections in Norfolk are on May 3rd and NewsChannel 3 wanted to know what issues have caught residents' attention.
Specifically in West Ghent, or Chelsea, where there has been lots of growth in the past few years and business owners in Chelsea are noticing a change.
The city of Norfolk recently granted $100,000 to the Chelsea Business Association for bike racks, street lights and better sidewalks. Because of this business owners said they are noticing more people walking up and down the street as they visit the bars, restaurants and shops.
Laurel Quarberg, one of the owners of The New Leaf has been following the mayoral race and said each candidate has the potential to support this up-and-coming neighborhood.
Quarberg said, "any good business owner knows as we grow, we all grow so you can't leave behind any other business area; we sort of all have to rise together."
Chelsea business owners said they want to see a Mayor who cares about small businesses and grows other areas as well. They specifically mentioned the Waterside district.
