Norfolk, Va. — Norfolk Spartan and current NBA player Kyle O’Quinn will receive his Bachelors Degree this weekend.

O’Quinn currently plays for the New York Knicks, and was the key player in Norfolk State’s memorable win over Missouri in 2012.

That victory was the school’s only NCAA division 1 tournament win in school history.

The current NBA player said he finished his degree through Norfolk State’s online program to fulfill a promise he made to his family.

“My parents were always big on education,” O’Quinn said. “Graduating from Norfolk State was a promise I kept to my mom and dad and is something I wanted to uphold.”

O’Quinn was drafted to the Orlando Magic and played there for three years before he was signed with his hometown team, The New York Knicks, as a free agent.

Even through playing 82 games in a grueling NBA season O’Quinn still managed to complete his degree.

Kyle O’Quinn will be receiving his degree in interdisciplinary studies along with more than 600 students on May 7th in the Norfolk Scope.
