WILMINGTON, N.C. – A former Santa Claus and magician for children’s parties pleaded guilty on Monday to manufacturing child pornography of his two grandchildren.
Leander Dewey Jones, 64, of Raleigh was discovered producing the child pornography after taking his computer to a repair shop in Raleigh in May of 2015.
A computer technician at the shop found a folder containing the material while examining the computer for viruses and malware. The technician alerted the store owner, who contacted the Raleigh Police Department.
Police obtained a search warrant and a subsequent computer forensics examination revealed approximately 4,000 images of child pornography on the computer and external hard drives. Another 1,000 images were found on CDs and floppy discs.
Jones faces up to 30 years imprisonment. He will be sentenced on August 1, 2016.
