JAMES CITY COUNTY, Va. – A Salem man has been charged with reckless driving after hitting a safety truck.
It happened at approximately 2:10 a.m. on Wednesday.
Contractors were working on an overhead sign while diverting traffic from the right lane of I-64 westbound at mile marker 234 to the left lane using three safety crash trucks with mounted arrow boards.
Christopher Sabo was driving a 2014 Volvo when he fell asleep and hit the truck. The impact of the crash pushed his car into the back of a maintenance bucket truck with an extendable boom.
A passenger in the truck who had a helmet and safety harness was inside of the bucket during the crash and was ejected.
The passenger, Wesley Simon-Parsons, suffered serious injuries and was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital.
