Suffolk, Va. -It’s not every day that Daisy plays with her owner Amanda Grove’s other dog, Nero.
“She does lay down a lot of the times,” Grove explained. “Being on her feet does, does bother her. She can’t jump. She has a lot of issues.”
That’s because the one-year-old has a shattered leg.
Grove says Daisy was recently shot and the bullet is still lodged in her leg.
“You can feel - there’s a large knot on the inside of her leg,” Grove said.
The leg now has to be amputated.
“It makes me feel horrible that somebody could do something so cruel to an animal, that has obviously has so much love to give,” Grove explained.
A love that she recognized when she adopted the black lab three weeks ago, just days before a shelter planned to put her down.
“She has come around to be the sweetest, most loving, affectionate dog,” Grove described.
Along with the shattered leg, Grove says Daisy has a few BB gun pellets throughout her body and is recovering from worms.
Once a shy, timid dog, Grove says Daisy has blossomed.
But Daisy has a long recovery ahead.
Grove is trying to raise $2,500 through a GoFundMepage to get Daisy’s leg removed and cover other medical expenses.
“She’s now gonna have to completely readjust her whole life,” Grove said.
A life animal rescue worker Alyssa Mathews says is far from over.
“She’s going to be working with a lot of our amputee warriors because I think that a lot of our warriors are going to be able to really understand her,” Matthews explained.
But until Daisy is running around again, Grove says she’s going to keep showing her the affection she’s been missing.
