NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk Police say two women have been arrested for their involvement in the stabbing death of a man found in a parking lot on Church Street early Wednesday morning.
Officers were dispatched to the area around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday after dispatchers received calls about suspicious activity.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found the man in the parking lot suffering from multiple stab wounds. Paramedics pronounced him deceased on scene. He has been identified as 56-year-old Carl S. Shands, Jr.
A large portion of Church Street was blocked off for hours while police investigated. The focus of their investigation appeared to circulate around a nearby apartment building. Detectives were seen going in and out of a unit carrying bags of evidence.
Witnesses tell News 3 they saw police pull what appeared to be a large butcher knife from a storm drain.
Following the investigation, detectives were able to charge 22-year-old Simyua L. Askew and 25-year-old Natia S. Boddie with second degree murder. Both are being held in the Norfolk City Jail.
