YORKTOWN, Va. – Just one day before the start of hurricane season, homeowners are taking action to protect their property.
Kenny’s Tree and Crane Company specializes in tree removal. Crews were called to a home in Yorktown to remove a few trees that were leaning towards the home. Removal specialists say some of the trees have weak roots or branches that could cause damage.
It takes eight hours for the crane operator and the crew on the ground to cut the tree and send the limbs through a wood chipper.
Although the process makes for a long day at work, it could protect families from something worse in the future.
“Not too long ago we went to a job where the tree had gone through the corner of the house and hit in a pillar area between two windows and the brick stopped it about four feet over a child’s bed," said crew manager Jonathan Hill
Hill said live trees are more dangerous than dead ones.
"The live trees the leaves act as sails so the live trees gets a lot of wind that hits them whereas the dead trees the wind passes right around them,” said Hill.
Removing limbs can save your home, but calling in the experts is suggested because process can be very dangerous.
