DUCK, N.C. – Tuesday morning brought beach goers quite a sight as they witnessed a 30-35 foot-long humpback whale up on the shoreline with them.
Around 10:30 a.m. the whale was temporarily grounded in Duck away from other whales that could be seen just past a nearby sandbar.
A witness from Duck said the humpback appeared to be juvenile in nature and they weren’t clear what happened.
The Ocean Rescue Director, Mirek Dabrowski, was on the scene the whole time and made sure the whale wasn’t tangled on anything.
Luckily, about two hours later the humpback set itself free from the shallow waters and swam back to its pod!
