Naval Air Force Atlantic remembers the Battle of Midway with commemorative ceremony

Sinking_of_japanese_cruiser_Mikuma_6_june_1942NORFOLK, Va. – The Battle of Midway took place six months after the Pearl Harbor and is considered one of the most decisive naval battles to take place in World War II.

In the battle, the United States overpowered the Japanese Navy. They never recovered from the loss.

A commemoration ceremony was held Thursday morning at the Naval Aviation Monument in Virginia Beach.

The ceremony included guest speaker World War II historian and the Deputy Education Director of the Hampton Roads Naval Museum, Laura Orr.

She is writing a book about one of the key figures involved in the Battle of Midway, dive bomber pilot Captain Jack “Dusty” Kleiss.
