First Warning Traffic: Tuesday Tunnel and Road Closures

NORTH LANDING BRIDGE CLOSED TODAY:

CHESAPEAKE, VA – After being struck twice by barges earlier this year, the Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers plans on closing the North Landing Bridge for six hours to partially repair the damaged structure. Closed from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to make the necessary repairs.

Motorists traveling from Virginia Beach to Chesapeake will take Indian River Road to Kempsville Road to Centerville Turnpike to Mount Pleasant Road.

Motorists traveling from Chesapeake to Virginia Beach will take, Centerville Turnpike, to Kempsville Road to Indian River Road to Mount Pleasant Road.

DOWNTOWN TUNNEL CLOSURES:

I-264 East: Full tunnel closure Tuesday, June 20 and 21 from 8 p.m.  until 5 a.m. the following morning.

 I-264 West: Downtown Tunnel open with a single lane closure Wednesday and Thursday, June 22 and 23 from 8 p.m. each night until 5 a.m. the following morning.

I-464 North/I-264 West: Full ramp closure Tuesday, June 20 and 21 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

I-64 Widening Project, Newport News/York County: Single-lane closures eastbound and westbound June 19-23 as early as 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning. All work will take place between Jefferson Avenue and Lee Hall, and one lane will remain open to traffic at all times.  Terminal Boulevard Resurfacing, Norfolk: Full directional weekend consecutive closures eastbound (traveling from Hampton Boulevard towards I-564) and nightly weeknight closures as follows:

  • 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

 I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel: Intermittent stoppages westbound January 20-24 from 11 p.m. to 11:20 p.m. Traffic stoppages will last up to 20 minutes. Alternating lane closures eastbound and westbound. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • Eastbound June 19-23 from 9 p.m. until as late as 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • Westbound June 20-23 from 8 p.m. until as late as 5 a.m. the following morning, and June 24 from, 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

 I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel: Alternating lane closures as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • Northbound/Southbound Alternating:  June 21-23 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
  • Northbound: June 21-23 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

 I-264 Berkley Bridge, Norfolk: Night-time single-lane closures as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • Westbound June 20 from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • Eastbound June 20 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • Eastbound /Westbound June 21 from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • Westbound June 22 from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • Eastbound June 23 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.

I-64 High Rise Bridge: Alternating lane closures as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:

  • Eastbound and Westbound June 17 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
  • Eastbound June 20-23 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • Eastbound and Westbound June 21-23 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning.
  • Eastbound June 22-23 from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning from the High Rise Bridge to Shell Road Overpass.

I-64 HOV Reversible Roadway, Norfolk: The Reversible Roadway will be closed as follows. The ramps at the I-264 flyover and I-564 will remain open:

    • June 21-23 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m.

I-564 Eastbound/Westbound, Norfolk: Daytime and night-time single-lane closures as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:

    • Eastbound June 21-23 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. between Norfolk Naval Station Gate 3A &3 and I-64 West/Granby Street.
    • Westbound June 22-23 from 7 p.m. until 4 a.m. at the I-564 West Runway Tunnel.
    • Westbound June 23 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the I-564 West Runway Tunnel.

I-64 Eastbound, Norfolk: Alternating lane closures eastbound June 21-22 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning between I-564 and Tidewater Drive. One lane will remain open at all times.

I-64 Eastbound Ramp to I-664 Southbound, Hampton: Alternating lane closures June 21-22 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. the following morning from the I-64 eastbound ramp to I-664 southbound. One lane will remain open at all times.

 I-95 Northbound/Southbound, Sussex County: Alternating lane closures northbound and southbound as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:

    • Northbound/Southbound June 20 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. between Route 40 and Route 642.

 I-95 Northbound/Southbound, Emporia: Alternating lane closures northbound and southbound as follows. One lane will remain open at all times:

    • Northbound June 20-24 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the Route 58 intersection in Emporia

 VA-31 Northbound/Southbound Jamestown Road, James City County: Alternating lane closures June 20-23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from VA-199 to Jamestown Road. One lane will remain open at all times.

I-95 Bridge Replacement over the Meherrin River Southbound, Emporia: Consecutive single-lane closures southbound as follows. One lane will remain open at all times: Southbound June 19-23 from 6:30 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following morning between Exit 13 and 11 at the Greensville County and Town of Emporia Line.

Route 680 over Stallings Creek, Isle of Wight County: Full consecutive closure on Route 680 over Stallings Creek for bridge replacement May 16 through June 2017.

George Washington Memorial Highway (Route 17), York County: Crews are widening the road between Route 630 (Wolf Trap Road) and Route 706 (Hampton Highway). Daytime single-lane closures, from 9 a.m.to 3 p.m. and weeknight single-lane closures, from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. Expect traffic shifts and delays. ROAD WORK IN CHESAPEAKE:

DOMINION BLVD:

*NEW traffic alignment at Dominion Lakes Blvd will be in place once roadway reopens Monday morning. 

Veterans Bridge full overnight closures (9pm-5am) June 22, 24, 28, 30.

Cedar Rd closure at Dominion Blvd overnight (9pm-5am) June 21.

NORTH BATTLEFIELD BLVD LANE CLOSURE

Southbound North Battlefield Blvd at Medical Pkwy. The Public Utilities Department will replace a sewer line in southbound lanes of North Battlefield Blvd at Medical Pkwy from June 15 to August 31.  The work will require various single lane closures.  Access to Medical Pkwy and Chesapeake Regional Healthcare will be maintained at all times.  Motorists should be alert to work crews, equipment in the area and possible delays.

TERMINAL BOULEVARD RESURFACING PROJECT

Norfolk, Va. – Full directional weeknight and weekend closures of Terminal Boulevard Eastbound (traveling from Hampton Boulevard towards I-564)

Full Directional Closure Work Hours:

8 p.m. to 5 a.m. weeknights
8 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday on weekends

Construction on Terminal Boulevard Eastbound (traveling from Hampton Boulevard towards I-564) will continue every weeknight and weekend until crews complete all work in that direction. Crews will then switch over and begin work on Terminal Boulevard Westbound (traveling from I-564 towards Hampton Boulevard) where full directional weeknight and weekend closures will continue until construction is complete in January of 2017.

  • There will be no work on major holidays, and all lanes will be open during rush hour periods.
  • Traffic will be detoured using I-564/Admiral Taussig Boulevard and Hampton Boulevard.
  • Neighborhood access will be maintained via Diven St. or Meredith St. during full closures.
  • Access to Ruthven Road (Sewells Point Golf Course) will be maintained.
