Washington, D.C. - A plan to expand healthcare services for veterans in Hampton Roads by opening a healthcare center on the Southside has stalled in the U.S. Senate.
The healthcare center would offer most of the services that the Hampton VA Medical Center does, outside of an emergency room and overnight care, on the Southside where many veterans currently live.
The rapid growth at the Hampton VA Medical Center makes it one of the busiest in the nation and the healthcare center has been on their critical wish list.
"Our veterans, no matter where they live, deserve healthcare in a timely and efficient manner. We know even though we’ve brought the wait times down at the Hampton VA – getting through the tunnel, particularly during rush hour, still means it’s a real challenge for veterans on the Southside to get the health care they need and they deserve in a timely manner," Senator Mark Warner stated.
Senator Warner's office says they are still looking at all available options in order to make the Health Care Center a reality.
