Health and Human Services announced on June 16 that 1.4 million dollars of funding will be awarded to four health centers in Virginia.
The funding will increase access to oral health care. Additional to the 1.4 million dollar fund, nearly $156 million in funds will be awarded to support 420 health centers in 47 states nationwide.
The funds from Health Resources and Services Administration will allow health centers across the country to hire approximately 1,600 new employees to treat nearly 785,000 new patients.
“The funding we are awarding will reduce barriers to quality dental care for hundreds of thousands of Americans by bringing new oral health providers to health centers across the country.” said Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell.
Lack of access to preventive and routine dental care for underprivileged populations can result in costly emergency dental treatment.
