Meteorologist Myles Henderson’s First Warning Forecast
Threat for severe storms…. Severe storms rolled from Richmond to the Peninsulas this morning but more severe weather is possible later today and tonight. Expect a mix of partly to mostly cloudy skies through midday and this afternoon with scattered showers and storms possible as an area of low pressure drifts to our north. Some storms could be strong to severe, with our biggest threats for damaging winds, hail and heavy downpours that could cause localized flooding. The highest chances for rain and storms will be tonight. We will likely see a line of storms moving from NW to SE from sunset to near midnight. It will still be hot and humid today, with highs in the low 90s.
A cold front will slowly drift from north to south through North Carolina on Friday. That will keep clouds and scattered showers and storms in the forecast. Most (if not all) of the severe storms will stay south of the Albemarle Sound tomorrow. It will be much cooler on the north side of the front. Expect highs near 80 on Friday.
Highs will remain in the low 80s this weekend, as the cold front stalls to our south. As long as the front line stays to our south, we will see a solid dose of sunshine and low rain chances. Any leftover clouds should gradually clear on Saturday with plenty of sunshine for Sunday.
Today: Partly to Mostly Cloudy, Scattered Showers/Storms(40%). Highs in the low 90s. Winds: SW 10-20+
Tonight: Mostly Cloudy, Scattered Showers/Storms(50%). Lows in the mid 70s. Winds: SW 5-15
