Newport News, Va. - Lauren Newell is a fighter. The last 10 years have been a rough journey for her.
"I'm a survivor of sexual and brain trauma," says Newell. She hasn't let these obstacles stop her from moving forward. It's been a long journey recovering physically, but it's her mental toughness that's carrying her through her next goal-- raising the most money ever for a 10K.
How will she do it? Relentless training -- six miles of running a day at Riverview Farm Park, all in hopes to raise awareness for sex trafficking victims.
"I can not only send a resounding message to Washington but to everyone who supports me around this area but also the around the United States that the Latisha's of this world are not for sale," says Newell.
It's a testimony that's gaining park-goers attention from her daily dedication, and gaining notoriety around Hampton Roads.
