RICHMOND, Va. – A Newport News man was arrested on state weapons charges after bringing a gun to the Richmond International Airport.
TSA officers detected a .38 caliber handgun and five bullets inside of the man’s backpack at an airport checkpoint Monday morning.
The man told officials that he had the gun in his carry-on bag because he had guests with children visiting him. He said he didn’t want the children to have access to the gun, so he tucked it inside of his backpack.
TSA officers contacted airport police, who confiscated the gun and arrested the traveler.
This has been the third gun that TSA officers have caught at one of the airport’s checkpoints this month.
