VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - A tow truck driver has been arrested for hitting a man with a bat, according to police.
Corey Moore tried to give some insight into what happened over the holiday weekend from inside the courthouse in Virginia Beach.
Moore told the judge there is more to this situation. Moore's was dressed in an orange jumpsuit as he went in front of a judge for his arraignment Tuesday afternoon and was granted a public defender.
He told the judge he knows the charge is bad but says it is not him and there is a lot more to this story.
The 26 year-old was arrested for malicious wounding, Sunday.
People at the scene told News 3 the tow truck driver and a customer got into a heated argument.
Police say Moore attacked the victim with a bat.
Witnesses said the customer was on the ground after being attacked.
The victim was taken to the hospital but expected to be okay.
Tuesday News 3 went to Affordable Towing where the situation happened near 18th Avenue and Arctic Avenue and two employees claimed they didn't know anything about the situation.
The suspect's mom left court and didn't want to be interviewed, but she said she was told by her son's girlfriend that he felt threatened and hit the man with the bat.
She said Moore was in the Army for four years and worked as a mechanic in Portsmouth prior to taking the towing job to make extra money.
Police say there is video of what happened but it is not being released at this time because it is part of the investigation.
Moore has a bond hearing on Friday and a preliminary hearing set for August 12.
