VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - All summer, First Landing State Park offers several free programs and activities that give kids a closer look at nature surrounding the park.

From bug hunting, to learning how to survive in the wilderness, kids are given the opportunity to learn about the areas ecosystem in a hands on way.

In one activity called Swamp Stomp, an education specialist leads the kids on an expedition of swamp. They take scoops from the swamp for kids to dig through and see what kinds of water bugs, amphibians, and invertebrates they can find.

The park also offers "Creature Feature" every week, which gives visitors an up close encounter with one of the park's education animals.
