NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The driver of a tractor-trailer died early Tuesday in a crash at the entrance ramp from 35th Street to southbound I-664 in Newport News.
Virginia State Police say the accident happened just before 3 a.m.
The driver of a 2014 Freight Liner tractor trailer was driving southbound on I-664 at a high rate of speed and attempted to take the 35th Street exit ramp. The truck hit the barrier wall before overturning and ejecting the driver.
The driver, 61-year-old Wendell Ross Loflin, was not wearing a seatbelt. He died on impact.
The truck was fully loaded with cardboard boxes.
