Portsmouth, Va. - A "Prayer for Peace" vigil is being  held at I.C. Norcom High School Saturday night.

State Senator Louise Lucas began planning the event soon after the shooting deaths of the five Dallas Police officers and the police killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile.

She says Portsmouth is a city divided and she wants to bring everyone together before something bad happens.

Sen. Lucas says the relationship between the public and police has improved, but still has a long way to go.

The police chief was invited, but couldn't attend. Instead, Chaplain Danny Hollowell was here to represent the department.

There were also several local, state, and federal guest speakers, including Lieutenant Governor Ralph Northam.
