CLEVELAND, Ohio – Donald Trump took another unconventional step toward the presidency by showing up early to introduce his wife Melania Trump on the first night the Republican
National Convention in Cleveland on Monday.
Melania Trump is a Slovene-American businesswoman, jewelry designer, and model. She’s also married to presumptive Republican Nominee Donald Trump.
Donald Trump made the announcement he would be introducing her Monday morning on Twitter.
Formally, Melanija Knavs, she met Donald Trump in 1998. She’s the business mogul’s third wife.
Melania spoke on a night filled with themes of safety and foreign policy. Former Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Sen. Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas), and Sen. Joni Ernst (R-Iowa) all appeared on stage earlier in the night.
Until Monday Melania has been largely quiet on the campaign trail. She became a U.S. citizen in 2006, and stands by Trump’s policy to crack down on the enforcement of illegal immigrants.
Trump wants the country to know that his third wife is more than just a pretty face. She speaks five languages. If her husband is elected she would be the first foreign-born first lady since John Quincy Adams almost 200-years-ago.
