VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Wednesday night a group of cadets from a foreign country will graduate from the  Virginia Beach Fire Training Academy.

This is the first time a group from outside the U.S. has graduated, and they are from the Philippines.

The VBFD first introduced their guests earlier in the spring as the cadets came from Olongapo City as part of a cultural exchange program.

Virginia Beach and Olongapo City are “Sister Cities.”

Mayor Will Sessoms and Council member Jim Wood will be attending the graduation along with guests from Virginia Beach’s Philipino-American community.

The Olongapo Firefighters will be using what they’ve learned at the academy to enhance their Fire and EMS training programs at home.

Additionally, with the help from a grant from the Rotary Club of Cape Henry, equipment will be sent home with the graduates to help them in their efforts to make improvements to their training at home.
