Redskins Training Camp – Day 7

Richmond, Va. - Wednesday, Redskins training camp wraps-up its first full week. The team's seventh day of camp consisted of a 10:35am walkthrough, but that'll was it for most of the veteran players.

The 'Skins 3:00 afternoon workout was merely a special teams practice, so many of the players will be through after the morning session.

"We did it (special teams practice) in Tampa a couple times when I was down there with my brother and it’s really a good time to really hone in on special teams, number one, and give the big guys a little rest," Redskins head coach Jay Gruden told reporters. "We had two pretty good days and it was pretty hot out there, and I felt like we were getting a little leg weary, so I thought it was a good recovery day. We could do some core with the big guys, they could do some stuff on the other field, and then we can hone in on the special team fundamentals and nuances that we can just focus in on special teams. I thought it’d be good.”

Contributing on special teams is a way for young players, especially rookies, to increase their odds of making the 53-man roster. However, we're not expecting to see a pair of Redskins rookies on the field Wednesday.

First round draft pick Josh Doctson has yet to practice in training camp, as he recovers from an offseason Achilles injury. Washington used its second round pick in 2016 to draft Su'a Cravens. The linebacker/safety missed Tuesday's workout with a sprained tendon in his leg.

Doctson was spotted wearing a walking boot Wednesday. Gruden says that does not mean the rookie from TCU suffered a setback. In fact, it's the opposite.

"He had a good day yesterday," Gruden said when speaking about Doctson. "Really, they’re trying to work him hard one day and then let him rest the next day and keeping him in the boot is the best option we feel like right now."
