Newport News man lies to police about circumstances of his injury

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Authorities say charges are pending against a man who lied to police

A man told police he was shot during an attempted robbery Friday evening.

A call came in at 11:38 p.m. regarding a shooting in the 12700 block of Sandpebble Circle.

When officers arrived, they found a 29-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his right ankle.

Police say the victim was taken to the hospital and treated.

The victim told police that an unknown white man tried to rob him and at some point shot him.

After further investigations Newport News Police were able to determine that the man was lying about the attempted robbery and they are unsure of how he was shot.

They do not have a suspect description at this time as the investigation continues.

Officials say that charges are pending against the man who was shot.
