SUFFOLK, Va. – One person is injured after a gas line catches fire in Suffolk.
According a press release from the city Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to the 6700 block of Burbage Lake Circle just before 3:30 on Sunday.
The fire was coming from a hole in a 4 inch gas line, according to Captain Barney Howard. Officials said the fire started during contractor digging.
A total of 5 residents evacuated as crews worked to make the area safe. Medical personnel had to treat and transport a worker who was injured in the incident. He is at Sentara Norfolk General with non-life threatening injuries.
After 2 hours the fire was deemed ‘under control,’ as Columbia Gas shut down the gas line.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
